Hardacre Community Garden is administered as a project under the local non-profit Old Tipton Union School, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to local historic preservation. Through grassroots efforts, our group seeks to support and encourage preservation of areas pertinent to the historical beginnings of Cedar County.
The Hardacre house and property carries such significance for its connection to early local philanthropist Jacob Hardacre, and the Community Garden provides a continuation of our agricultural legacy while maintaining the neighbor-helping-neighbor spirit that our rural Iowa values are based on.
In addition to the Hardacre acreage, Old Tipton Union School, Inc. is currently engaged in other preservation projects including Tipton’s historic Old Union Schoolhouse, and the Spear House and Barn which has recently been refurbished and made into a beautiful bed and breakfast. More information can be found and reservations made through the Spear House and Barn B&B page at http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/497750
